For me, it didn't matter... I was also using a Motorola modem... it was
automatically detected... I was using Ubuntu 5.10 at that time. For that
matter, most new distros should support it.

  i dont know why asianet broadband providers didnt provide a linux usb
  driver for the cable modem they lend

  i think the modem vendor is motorola

  and im amased that they are not even interested to provide a linux
  usb driver  in fact they provide windows driver

  its really bad for linux users
