 Hello all,

I've configured GTalk (voice) with Empathy on GNU/Linux (with help from the internet). There is nothing much to configure though. Just enable mic from the audio controls. Voice quality is decent enough. And nothing to do on the command-line.

The GNU/Linux distro I am using is Mint 7, which is based on Ubuntu 9.04, which in turn is based on Debian 5.

First, update the system, if it has not been done in two weeks.

Then, add the repository "http://ppa.launchpad.net/telepathy/ubuntu jaunty main" to Third-party software in Software Sources.

Now, from the package manager (Synaptic is avaialble out of the box), I had selected to install the following packages:

empathy
telepathy-mission-control
telepathy-stream-engine
telepathy-gabble (for GTalk protocol)
dbus-x11

I think the above five packages should be enough to get started with Gtalk voice chat.

If anybody has any issues with it, do reply to the mailing list. If not me, somebody else here would / could have the solution.

Check out the site http://telepathy.freedesktop.org/ for more info on the S/W components that makes this service available to us.

Happy GNUiing.
